Davido received the Next Rated award at The Headies in 2012 after the release of “Dami Duro,” the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo (2012).


He also had a number of hit singles between 2013 and 2015, and in January 2016, he signed a record deal with Sony Music.


He then established the record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), which signed Dremo, Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and Liya.


Davido signed a record deal with Sony’s RCA Records in July 2016. Son of Mercy, his 5-track EP released in October 2016, was supported by the singles “Gbagbe Oshi,” “How Long,” and “Coolest Kid in Africa.”


Davido renegotiated his contract with Sony in April 2017 due to creative control issues, and later that year he released five singles, including “If” and “Fall.”


“If” sparked massive social media activity around the world, while “Fall” became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history.

He is widely regarded as the “King of Modern-Day Afrobeats.”


In November 2019, Davido released his second studio album A Good Time, which was supported by singles such as “Blow My Mind,” which featured popular American singer Chris Brown.


In 2019, New African magazine named him one of the Top 100 Most Influential Africans.


On Friday, November 13, 2020, he released his third studio album, A Better Time. Davido is the second most followed African on the social media app Instagram as of August 2021.

Davido was born in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. He is the youngest of five siblings and the second son of his father. After his father paid the university to establish a music department for an inaugural class of one student, he graduated from Babcock in July 2015 with a degree in music.


In March 2022, Davido was featured on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together),” the first single from the multi-song FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM Official Soundtrack, alongside (Trinidad Cardona and AISHA). Davido became the first Nigerian singer to appear on a FIFA World Cup single.


Davido released another song titled “Stand Strong” in May 2022, which featured The Samples Choir. According to the Naija banquet, the song is a departure from the Nigerian singer’s usual hop/dance style. Davido reflects on his musical journey and the battles he faces on a daily basis in the song. It is also the story of his recovery.
